Blc. Sanyung Ruby 'Lakeview'
a co-worker just gifted me a Home Depot orchid that blew me away.
It was a gift he received and he kept it until the flower started to wilt and then, thinking he would kill it, he brought it in to me
holy wow! this thing is huge (flower is at least 7" across but wilted) and it has an amazing cinnamon and sugar smell.
I'll take some pics when i get home but keep your eyes open as this is a treat of an orchid to get from a big box store.
Anyone else growing this? does it have any weird needs etc? I only found one thread on here and it was not informative

Wow! Your Home Depot sure has better things than mine. Looked it up in Orchidwiz, it appears to even be correctly labeled! And its future is bright, too. I don't think it needs anything beyond normal Catt culture. It's on the warm-growing side (lots of C. dowianana), but that's what happens at your house anyway.

Beautiful colour DC! Beautiful dark violet/purple.
Some colour break (or something) on the left petal ------ not necessarily virus. Not commenting about aesthetics - only drawing attention to that region - just in case.
This might be just due to the way the petal was naturally folded in the bud. Beautiful flower.

Good Eye!
i THINK that line is, as you suggested, simply an irregular fold in bud...it was moved twice while the bud was forming and went from indoor to out and into a cold snap....
also, this bud opened into two very robust leaves and was quite crowded in this little area.
i think i will try to wipe it away and see if it is on the surface or the actual petal itself that is different,

It's quite an attractive bloom. I know many people have historically considered the big, classic hybrid cattleyas to be the standard corsage orchids. But to me, these big boys--both robust growths and large, show-stopping flowers--have always looked fairly masculine. How is the scent?
