Did you use the Orangeguard on both spikes?
I ask because the buds on both spikes have what I would say is a claw-like appearance and this is not the way they should look like on this type of plant. The bud should not be opening they way they are at this stage.
I'm thinking if the second spike did not receive the spray the chances are good that the flowers will end up mutated but hopefully its a one time only occurance.

Unfortunately I did use the spray on the whole plant. Second spike is still green, but it is the later one, so who knows, I may loose both. It sucks but nothing I can do at this time,so will see

I Have learned that these spikes once developed have thus far seemed pretty sturdy, so there is hope yet!!

I mean I have kept this one alive and well and it is close to blooming. I keep thinking at any moment they will bloom! And I just started orchiding in February!

If the spike was damaged by the Orange Guard, there is nothing I can do to save it. Things happen, and it always always sucks when you make your orchid grow well to produce spikes and than you somehow destroy them. However, there is just nothing that can be done, just to make sure the proper winter rest will be provided for this baby to grow and bloom again next year, for me to see the blooms finally:-)

if the leaves don't fall off....on December 15th stop all fertilizer and water= put this plant in the brightest window and forget about it until you see a new growth forming from out of the biggest bulb....wait for five inches growth or three inches roots put it back where you originally want it to be and start watering and fertilizer regimen once again up til it spikes for you....this time don't move it from where its at until it opens its blooms.

Yes, this is exactly the care I have written for this guy, so I will follow. So far it has all the leaves still looking very healthy and green. Do you know, I just got also Catasetum pileatum from Thailand and this care say only very short winter rest, not like other catasetums, is it tru? Or should I provide the same care. My pileatum actually came already without any leaves whatsoever so not sure if I should start winter rest for this one already and minimize water? I am little bit in weeds with this one, care for it says not strong winter rest like other catasetums?

pileatum is currently at rest....I saw the picture and it is plump and have enough energy to produce a baby.... do not water it for it might rot....put it in a bright place and soon it will have new growth....then start to water and fertilizer....
Catasetum pileatum

The AOS says they have short rest cycles and may not go into full rest. But GORGEOUS FLOWERS!
