Looks like mine is late to the party, probably because it took the 'side' road. Took more than a week to fully open. Here are my notes on the fragrance:
Day 0 (when it starts to show color, but is still closed): There is a slightly foul odor, like standing sewage water; subtle but distinct. You could smell it standing a few feet away from the plant, but you couldn't be sure what it was until you lean in. This was especially true for me, since I actually do have saucers of standing water near it.
Day 1 (first open): Develops a musky, peppery spice note; the "bite" somewhat subdues the original odor, but it is still there in the background.
Day 3: A slightly sour smell leads the way as the musky body opens up. The first thought that came to mind was some kind of detergent meets steam from a clothes iron. After some thinking I came to the conclusion of Necco Wafers (or Sweetarts) with a dash of dried cayenne pepper and nutmeg.
Day 4: Sour has now mostly supplanted the musky spice. It could be picked up across the room ever so slightly if you have a keen sense of if you're just in a good mood (it doesn't permeate the room, and any other smell could easily cover it up). It smells like sour candy, perhaps Pixie Stix, or a partially fermented raspberry. The pepper could still be picked up in the background.
Day 5: The tart fragrance is unmistakeably present. It is still easily covered by other odors, but it is there and you'd know it. The pepper undertones are all but gone. If you took a big whiff next to it, you'd still get pepper, maybe some cherry, but by far the fragrance now has to be the sharp sourness, like malic acid off of Warheads candy, or an extremely sour apple.
(Edit: Day 7: Sour apple with a backdrop of incense, peaks around noon and fades quite a bit in the late afternoon. When the tartness subsides, it does smell quite like cherry cough drops as others have reported.)
