Catasetum Sumani
a modern version of one of the first hybrids in this tribe... The plant is coming from Bela Vista Orchids, and a yellow Ctsm. pileatum was used this time as parent. It is impressive how dominant the color of pileatum is in this hybrid:

Gorgeous! Hard for me to see the saccatum in it. Without a pileatum next to it to compare, it just looks like slightly different pileatum to me!

Camille, actually there is a lot of saccatum in the flower. A very nice mix of both parents, to be honest. The hole in the middle of the labellum is very saccatum, as well as the frilly border of the labellum. The flowers are also smaller than pileatum but a larger than saccatum, and teh fragrance is very much pileatum.
For you to compare:

Thanks, makes it easier to see the differences! I'm still trying to familiarize myself with this genus so sometimes the differences aren't so obvious!

Lovely flowers and great photos. I can definitely see the pileatum. I'm impressed. It takes a keen eye, like yours, to see the subtle traits of the other parent.
My Oro Verde blooms began opening yesterday and they are male this time. I was expecting male because the appearance of the buds were vastly different than female. The plant lost his last two leaves about a week ago and the bulbs are moderately shriveled.
You have a lot of experience with this genera, so I must ask. Is it harmful for catasetums to bloom during dormancy? Thanks.

not at all... Actually, many species bloom only during dormancy or just before it...

Gorgeous. Looks like ceramic or porcelain work
