Actually, they were considered sometimes as Cyc. ventricosum with 4 different varieties. This led to a lot of confusion which is still present nowadays.

The differences are actually not that subtle, and I just mentioned some easy ones to separate them. All 4 species have different distribution, different fragrance, and different flower habitus. If you pay attention to the flowers and plants (Life, not in pictures), the only subtle difference is the color
