Default Stanhopea nigripes

Probably the last Stan in this season (is getting cold here - well, 'cold' in Brazilian weather!). Accordin to R Jenny, Stan nigripes and Stan florida "are not only extraordinarily similar but also appear in the same distribution area". Stan nigripes flowers are only 20% smaller than Stan florida, but their fragrances are different concerning the attraction of active pollinators: Eulaema meriana in nigripes and Euglossa nigropilosa or Eulaema seabrai in florida. In the close-up pic you see why it is called "nigripes" (from black, 'nigres'). The scent is sweet with a touch of lily. I'm proud, 'cause my nigripes is even more beautiful that which illustrates Dr Jenny's book!
