Dear Veekay,
What a beautiful plant. It is not, however, C. pileatum. It is the natural hybrid C. x Tapiriceps (macrocarpum x pileatum).
See:
Romero, G. A. & G. Carnevali 1990. Catasetum natural hybrids from southern Venezuela I, Catasetum x tapiriceps Reichb.f. Amer. Orchid Soc. Bull. 59(12):1214-1220.
This is a superb article by 2 of the 3 experts on Venezuelan orchids.
Sadly, AOS judges do not read their own magazine and the editorial staff at AOS headquarters do little more than try and get the photographs rightside up. As a result "species" continue to get awarded - often as FCCs !!! - which are really interspecific or intergeneric hybrids. These then get propagated, displace true species, and hurt conservation efforts. But the AOS is always right so . . .
Hope that helps, Eric

Veekay, you say this plant is from Venezuela? where exactly from? I know Ctsm. pileatum from Venezuela, as I spent most of my childhood in the Ctsm. pileatum region, and have never seen something like that before (which does not mean it is not possible!)
