The times I've broken pseudobulbs like this, they almost always dried completely and died. The one time they didn't was when I coated the broken ends with melted wax. The broken off piece went on to push a growth the next Spring.

Did you use a specific wax or will some candle wax do the trick? Also, did you drip it on or did you give it the Maker’s Mark and dunk it?

Candle melted into a glass. I picked up loose pieces and dipped them. It broke off near the base so I let that go. Be Careful melting wax! You can cause a nasty fire.

Edit: Found it.
Is it fractured or is it broken?.

The pieces all made new plants. Pack rats ate all of them.

That thread was a gold mine—thank you, ES! That was really something to behold! Crying shame to be eaten after such a comeback though
