Thanks for sharing your bulbophyllum experiences, all.

I just looked up hirundinis. Sign me up! It's lovely. Can anyone give me an idea of it's size? How tall it is?

I just measured mine and the largest leaf (including the pbulb) is 2 inches. The currently fading flower spike is 3.5 inches long and the flower umbel is 2.5 inches wide with each flower being around 1.5 inches long.

I am very glad yours survived. It has a great flower. On the mount (mine came from Andy's--tree fern mount, too), it doesn't really take up much room and I think I might have ordered one about the same size from J&L. However, I really do like the tiny ones.

Beth, are you interested in pseudobulbs which is cylindrical? I'm not quite sure about your description.

If you are interested in compact ones, how about:
Trias nummularia
T. picta
Bulbophyllum muscarirubrum
B. sutepense
B. moniliforme
B. minutissimum (similart to B. moniliforme)
B. ovalifolium
? The first 5 are available from LOC

The following species are wonderful, but quite difficult to get, and they may need a bit cooler condition than Raleigh, NC.
B. ankylochele
B. patella (mine here)

If you have an access to this excellent book: A Compendium of Miniature Orchid Species, Volume 1, there are quite a few species of Bulbophyllum there.

Thanks to all of you
I've got a lot of bulbos to think about now.

I attached a couple of pictures of the psuedobulb shape that i was trying to remember and describe. It's a friend's plant, tagged as setaceum, but flowers are fairly bright orange. Does tingabarinum have PBs shaped like this?

Added a picture of my friend's plant in bloom. Does this look like setaceum?

I have pbulbs that look like that on plants with fuller pbulbs so I think it's a cultural thing.

Sorry, can't help with ID, I'm not familiar with the section (or any section).

Merci, Mouse. I maybe should post it in the ID section for more visibility.

Anyone growing setaceum or taiwanense and care to share experience with those?

I looked up tingabarinum and setaceum on orchidspecies.com and both of them are described as having tetragonal pbs.

I think it is the same as my tingabarinum. I am attaching a picture of it when it was in bloom. I am not sure if you can see the pseudobulbs. I am growing it in a jar so it is really tough to get good pictures. I hope this helps. You cannot go wrong buying the tingabarinum, though. It is small and the bloom is very pretty. My photo doesn't do it justice.

I am curious to know what I have gotten from J&L as Bulbophyllum biseriale. The picture they have doesn't seem to match the IOSPE pictures (or any others that I could find!). I really love the orchid (it is so tiny), especially if the flowers turn out like J&L's pictures. Does anyone know?

I would love to see a photo of the jar with the plant in it.
