Twinkle Question

My Twinkles have been struggling. I wanted them so desperately I bought them with some brown tips. Took them home and they've done well, except the tips I trimmed off turned brown with darker spots and are slowly working their way down the leaf. In 4 months they've moved maybe a 1/2" down the leaf. I have been half heartedly taking care of them and much to my surprise I found 19 spikes on the 3 of them. I swear they weren't there last week. Now I'm realizing benign neglect may not of been a bad thing, but should I worry about the browning leaves? The nursery owner told me it was cosmetic and not to worry.

All my twinkles do that. Without a picture, I'd guess the old leaves are naturally falling off. These like to stay moist, as does most of the tribe. Be patient as it will take a while for those spikes to bloom.
