Every orchid site I visit or book I read speaks about the "growing season" and the "resting" or "dormant" season and the "flowering" season, but they never put those terms in a context for new collectors like me. I understand that not all orchids are the same, some bloom twice a year, etc. But can someone please tell me (for example) from what month to what month is the growing season for most orchids, from what month to what month is the dormant season, during what months do most orchids bloom, etc. so I know when to repot, when to adjust watering, etc.? Even better would be if you could list these months by type of orchid (catts, dendrobiums, pals, etc.

I don't think it will be possible as they are all different. Even say the Cattleya's grow at different times of the year. I have some in growth at all times of year. If you have species then they will have a season but then when you start mixing them as in hybrids one never knows.

Phals are not so picky so you can really re-pot them when ever. Maybe someone has a better answer for you but I think you will just have to see when they start to grow. I know I too have a tough time with some of them knowing when to re-pot as well.
