I'm sorry. You did everything right. I don't think the problem was watering from above. It was probably already infected when you bought it. The bark was probably old and decomposing. When this happens the air spaces get obliterated. The roots suffocate in the wet old bark, and rot sets in.
There are plenty of real orchid nurseries in the Miami area. Get your next plant from one of them. They can pick out a good plant for the spot where you want to put it. Ask them how to grow it.
And please keep us informed how your orchids are doing! You said you had another one... how is that one?

Its ok and Thank you so much for your help. Oddly enough I had bought this orchid from a top orchid nursery down here in Homestead. I called them and they told me that for next time I can go and exchange the orchid for another but since I had cut it up and repotted it they can't accept it back.😞 My dendrobium orchid, which I bought at a regular store, is doing really well. She's even sprouting some new leaves..so I'm super happy with that one. So yea you never know. Lol

If it's a top orchid nursery, I'd show them a picture of the crown rot you can clearly see in the first picture before you repotted it. Perhaps that would change their mind?

Also my thought Jessir57, it sounds as if you're fairly new to growing orchids. If you bought this from an orchid nursery, at minimum even the cashier should have seen its condition and offered something different.
You will learn as you go what looks "good" and what looks like a problem, but those who sell should have known.
I say none of that to be offensive... it's just what I see from your first picture. And I hesitated at first to respond, as my first thought was Oh MY, that's not good.

@waterwitchin no need to worry I am not offended. After all in failing we learn right? 😉and I agree I should have noticed about the rot on the leaf. It was, however, covered up with a dry piece from the actual stem (don't know what it is called..see sample pic attached) so I didn't see it when I bought it. I noticed the roots were full and green and the leaves were green and perky so I thought it was healthy. After about a week, the flowers tilted so I decided to look closer at the stem and roots and removed that dried piece and there it was. I also called up the orchid place and told them about the picture I took but since I had panicked and repotted it they wouldn't take it back. I am pretty new at this but I believe this plant might have had this issue before and it was fixed for a moment but it had returned again. Anyways, now I know I have to look at everything.

we'll play a heartfelt rendition of taps as this phalenopsis ascends to that big greenhouse in the sky. you are well on your way to becoming an orchid expert.
Let me add.... before my comments are misconstrued... All orchid growers I know, learn from adverse events and become experienced growers after they have had to go through a few or many such losses.
so (tongue in cheek) an orchid expert has killed many orchids... myself included of course
