I like that... In the case of the club in question, the last time that I can recall public disagreement at a meeting was when we raised the dues from $1 to $5 and a couple of old-timers got bent out of shape. We have one member who's paid up until 2026 because he had a $20 bill in his pocket. fortunately he gets the newsletter by email so doesn't cost us a fortune.

during and just after our President got ill, ?Mr. Pat Worthington. I became President...no one else wanted to do it so I got talked into it. Then several others I guess didn't respect the vote out come and became a pain to deal with. That was it for me.

When you're the club president, you appoint the nasty board members to do volunteer jobs. This makes them keep their mouths shut at meetings.
And if they refuse, you tell them you need to make room for people who are able to help. Bye Bye!

That WAS a long time ago, probably when I first got involved with the club, I missed that part... because Pat died, I think, in 2000.(I'm not sure I was even a member that then, I think I joined a year or two later... and almost immediately got roped into being president myself. I soon begged off, having my hands full running the Fascination of Orchids show) In several orchid organizations that I have been involved with, time has solved one problem... few of the curmudgeons are still among the living... and caused another problem, not many people who are willing to do the work of keeping the clubs going. Rank and file members we have, meetings are reasonably well attended. But for most, being entertained and fed "just happens."

Alas, no. She died a couple of years ago after being hit by a car while taking a walk near her home in Laguna Beach. (I think she was living with her daughter at that point, don't know what happened to house and plants, she had changed addresses a year or two before) Laguna Beach seems to be a very dangerous place... I read pretty often of pedestrian fatalities there.

Both Pat & Ginny were good people. I really liked them. Will say a prayer for them. Adios. EZ

Running any group is a thankless occupation. I have, (not with orchids) and I always used to say that I didn't mind the ones that did no work, what I hated were those that actively hampered you at every step.
The above is excellent advice, and should be taken to heart.
PS LOVED the 'potty head' remark.
