Need help with my orchids
Angry Need help with my orchids

Hi there,
I really need a lot of help with my orchids ... I have Dendrobium, kingianums and Dendrobium yuki sakura ... I live in a condo apt facing East with humidity around 42% , is it possible to get them bloom eventually ? or not killing them at least cause the leaves sometimes turn brown and fall off; oh I water them as soon as they are dry only and fertilize them with 25-10-10

thank you for the help
Monica
I live in Edmonton,Alberta, Canada

Welcome, monicawidjaja1!

It sounds like you're doing things well now. Both plants should make new growth in the summer. Their old leaves will eventually turn brown and fall off, but the new growths should stay green for at least two years.

At the top of each page is a maroon menu. If you click on Search, and in the box type the names of your plants, you can read a lot of threads on how people care for these orchids.

Welcome to the board. How are the roots? If you have 5 posts then you can put up a picture and that might help.

Welcome to the board, you may want to change your user name to not include your email address. I don't grow dendrobiums, but I'm sure someone with experience will give you some advice.

Welcome. I agree with the suggestion to change your user name to something other than your e-mail address.

Edmonton has a great orchid society. If you aren't a member, I would encourage you to look into joining. They have many expert growers and amateur growers. You would have a great time and learn a lot about orchids. Their next meeting will be in late Sept. and guests are welcome. I am not a member of the Orchid Society of Alberta ( Orchid Society of Alberta Home Page) since I live in Saskatchewan, but have attended their meetings several times to hear their great guest speakers. Our society always attends the large orchid show they put on in the spring.

I would suggest you switch to a more balanced fertilizer with less nitrogen in it. Something like 20-20-20 used at 1/2 to 1/4 the recommended dose when you water will help blooms. Nitrogen encourages leafy green growth which is the first number on the fertilizer. Once a month flush the pots with clear water to clear out any accumulated fertilizer salts.

Regarding the user name change - I think you have to ask to have it changed. I think if you ask the moderators (such as Silken or White Rabbit, maybe ask by Private Message) they can start you on the right path.
