Hello, my friends

The title says almost it all but... I'm not sure if I can provide the right conditions. I have been sucessful growing phals so, do you think Catts will be happy in the same conditions?

They like the same medium, but my phals would die very quickly if they had the same exposure to light that the Catts have.

I've read they need more light than phals and an east or south window would be fine (in the case of a south window, a translucid curtain is needed to avoid direct sunlight).
My phals are growing in a south window, with such a curtain so this seems perfect for Catts.

The phals need the curtain, the catts won't. Maybe put the curtain on half the window where the phals are and open to light on the catt side.

That's a possibility but even thought, I'm affraid of the summer sun here...with outside temps between 95 and 105º F, I'm not sure if they can resist that.
It's usual for us to get meteo warnings due to very high ultraviolet radiation (for humans, at least).

Maybe I should give it a try.

Well you can start with the curtain for everyone and the adjust it to how your plant reacts. Maybe opening it slowly in the catt side.

What are the symptoms of low light for Catts?

Catts with low light are darker green and usually don't bloom. They should be the color of a green apple. A lighter shade of green but not yellow, yellow is too much light.

I understand your concern about hot sun through the window. My summer daytime temperatures are 35-45C and nights 30-36. I can't put Catts in the window where the sun shines directly on them or they burn, unless they get only an hour of the earliest morning sun. A sheer curtain might work. I just haven't tried it yet.

Your day-night temperature change matters, too. Catts suffer when the nights are hot. Phals tolerate this better.

There is a big temptation to water more when it is hot, but adult Catts definitely need to dry out between waterings.

105? I do use 50% shade cloth, as full sun will burn catts here, but our temps in the greenhouse hit 43C this summer even with the shade cloth. That's about 114F
