"May I ask what's your biggest concern with spraying those on the deck? Are you thinking preventative against pests? Am I remembering correctly that you used to do several rounds and with different treatments? I'd be happy with using Neem oil, of course healthier. Do you leave them out to dry?"

Neem oil/sucrashield are contact treatments and I use these indoors too. ( I only discovered recently that sucrashield can be combined with other treatments ) I sprayed the seedlings on the deck because I have had pillbugs and earwigs infest the pots that were close to or on the ground in the past. As a drench/heavy spray to soak the pots, neem oil kills these virtually instantly. The stuff dries quickly - indoors and outdoors ( with the wind ). Also when dry these treatments are 'harmless'. Another reason for neem - its supposed to be a fungicide too, so I am curious to see if it helps the zygos with anti-spotting.
I have experimented with a 3% hydrogen peroxide as a contact pesticide - mainly for mealybugs. They fizz when sprayed, so it works ! The only other alternating treatment I use is Garden Safe.
Luckily I am at the point of being bug-free...and fungus free.... so this Winter I hope that I can cut down, or even eliminate, the number of treatments I give. I can ascribe this ( mainly ) to tossing all the plants that were ALWAYS affected by bugs/fungus. Now that they are gone, so are my problems.

Whew! Just finished constructing my new winter setup. My modest collection more than doubled in size this year, so I built some room to expand. Wonder how long it will take me to fill every nook and cranny?

Getting ready to bring in all the mangos, lemons, ficus, philodendrons, and other big trees, so I'll have a nice little indoor jungle in a few weeks.

Although the warmer months are my plants' favorite months, I always look forward to having my room full of life in the middle of the bleak winter.

What a beautiful set up you are making. I wish I had that kind of room to do something like that.

Wouldn't it be simpler to move to Florida?

Take the roof off, put glass on and you'll have a greenhouse 😀
Beautiful place you have !

How cold does it get outside 33N ?

Orchid Whisperer 10-14-2015 06:50 AM

Temps here this morning are 47 F (8 C), with similar temps tonight and lower later in the week. I cleaned plant trays for my indoor setup, will likely move Phals and other warm-growers inside tonight, or at least before we reach the low 40 F range. Catts might stay out longer & I'll cover when needed. My Coelogyne cristata will stay out into low 40s - upper 30s F and Cymbidiums will likely stay out until just before frost.

We were in the low 50's last week so I brought them in. Now it is warmer. I hate to bring them back out. Cymbidiums still outside. I bring my /dend Nobile in and out.
