I'm newer to miltonioips orchids and I'm wondering why one of the sbulb is turning yellowish and a lil mushy?

I'm in SoCal it in the last few weeks we've had a few pretty hot (mid to high 90s) days in a row. I've kept the soil moist so I'm not sure what happened, can anyone help?

Thank you!

What I have learned from killing a few is that although they like to be moist they also like a lot of air circulation around the roots. Mine also like to be in the more shaded part of my balcony.
I would suggest cutting the part that is soft and turning yellow put some cinnamon on it, and place the plant in an area where there is more air circulation, specially if you are keeping moist most of the time.
I currently have 9 of them a two are flowering, which surprised me because of the heat we have had here in the SF bay.
So keep them shaded, moist and with good air circulation.

I bought one on discount out of bool a year ago it is my first. It is in full bloom right now. I kept mine outside for a little bit but I did find it liked it better inside. I did burn the leaves.

I find these like to be moist and never fully dry. It will live if you let them dry out a bit but you might get wrinkled leaves.

Mine likes it's place in the south facing window.

Sounds like you might have over watered it.

I have mine in clay pots, they are breathable. They don't like to dry out but need good air flow.

My impression is most of southern California is too hot for Miltoniopsis unless you live right on the coast.

You maybe right, they like intermediate temps, mine are out side in the shade and the hottest temps they have experienced is between 80-98f. In the winter they don't like to go below 50F. With that said, I have not lost any Miltoniopsis do to temps, I have killed them do to too much watering. Now I know that we don't get the heat waves for too long thanks to the bay and fog coming in when the valleys are burning up. So Southern Calif may present a different challenge if growing out doors.

Thank you everyone for responding!

I also purchased this one at a discount at an Armstrong's and I'm in San Diego near Pacific Beach. Actually I bought 2, one for home and one for work, along with 2 cattleyas. The one I have at work seems to be doing fine, I suppose do to AC.

The one I have at home is indoors, should I move it out doors??

I wish I had more south and east light. All I have is northern and a little bit of western. Oh well.

Does the mushy pbulb smell at all? I agree that you should cut it off and dab cut with cinnamon. Repot in new media. What are you watering practices with this plant?

My one Miltoniopsis isn't so happy with me but I believe it's because I underwater. That said I just get nervous when I hear yellow & mushy.

No I haven't noticed a smell from it and I'm sad that I should cut it off, because it has new sbulb growing on it.

I'll see if I can add some pic's.
