Well, if you fear of disturbing the new growth by cutting the rotting part, then you can just leave it, let the plant dry some before watering again, and just keep an eye on it to make sure that the rot does not spread to the rest of the plant.

I have one plant that had a yellowing s-bulb, it was not soft so I left it in, it produced two new growths. So your plant could still be fine, just keep an eye on it and don't let it sit soaking wet.

I will try to post a pic of the plant I just mention later.

If the plant at work is doing better move the other to work. I do think these plants like temps no hotter than 80s. 60-70 is best for mine.

I have a plant that has a bad bulb it's brown and soft. It is dying due to a bad sunburn I think. The bulb went brown after being outside and it got wet than the sun hit it when it was wet. It was bad. But the new growth has been growing big and well off of it. Do not remove the dying bulb it will cause more stress.

Try and find your plant a cooler place with better light they love light and should light green leaves.

I bought a couple of milts this year as an experiment. They are still alive and putting out new shoots, so we shall see. The outside temps were pushing 40C at least, but they seem OK. I keep them outside on a table under about 50% shade.

Eeek 40c = 104f that's too hot for me. But the fact they are outside keeps them happy. what's your humidity? Does it cool off a lot at night. I feel that's what helps them want to spike.

The original message was about Miltoniopsis. They tolerate much less heat than most Miltonia. When I lived in Orange County, California, just a mile inland from Interstate 5 and just over the coastal hills from Laguna Beach, orchid people told me not to even bother trying Miltoniopsis because summers were too hot.

I have no idea what the humidity is. There is a level of humidity, some days worse than others, but by and large it's fairly dry. Day time at the moment 25 - 30C (80 - 90F) and night times 15 - 20C.

I bought two at the same time in July one died and the other is thriving. What I've noticed is that the one that died got too hot and stayed too wet and slowly died leaf by leaf. The one that is thriving is in our sunny bathroom and gets a lot of humidity but never over 80 degrees and it is about 10 feet from an east facing window with a sky light about 5 feet above. I also added more holes in the pot and only water it once a week and fertilize it then too.
