Colmanara dying while in flower, help!
Hello,
My colmanara got sick over a weekend while I was gone. The pseudobulb (which is currently in flower) became yellowish and soft, one leaf became brown.
I have been growing this colmanara for a year and a half. When I got it and it finished flowering, it grew a nice new pseudobulb (which now has this problem) and flowered again. When it finished (about 2 months ago), I repotted it with pine bark and placed it in a darker location (since the sun started getting too intensive on the windowsill). However, it did not produce a new shooting, but produced new flowers instead. A few days after it blossomed out this happened... Also: it lost a few leaves recently, but so did my other oncidium
Does anyone have any clues what might have happened? Should I repot it again and throw this pseudobulb away?
(I would include pictures, but can't since I'm a new member...)

I don't know what is going on with your chid, but I would cut the flower spike and take the plant out and look at the roots, and maybe remove the rooting pbulp, and if you could post a picture, it would help others in giving you a better idea on what to do.
Good luck!

Just say howdy two other places. I think you only need 3 posts to upload pictures. Mods, is this right?

Pictures - finally
Hello again, there's the photo of my orchid. I'm planning to cut the stalk, repot and remove the sick pseudobulb. What do you think?

It doesn't look that yellow or bad to me. Are referring to the large blooming pseudo bulb as the sick one? Is it actually squishy or just has some wrinkles in it, which is quite normal for many Oncidium types.
Was it left sitting in water over the weekend?
Do you know when it was last re-potted and what condition the media is in?

If it is indeed squishy, then I would remove the bulb as soon as possible. If the rot has spread to the next bulb in line, then I would remove that as well. It may be able to recover from just one pbulb, but it will be a slow recovery if so.

If the pbulp was not soft I would say leave it. But it is soft which means root has taken place.
So yes remove it and make sure to give the rest of the plant a good wash with some 70% alcohol before repot.
I had something similar happen to one of my plants, and I think it happen from watering with cold water and away from sun light, so the newest growth got rooted out. An i only move it from the front of the shelf to the back of the shelf. I don't know if this is what happen to your plant, but is what I have experienced in the past.

Yes, I repotted it two months ago (the roots were fine) into pine bark and was hoping to see a new growth, but this nice flower stalk emerged. Yes, the large blooming pseudobulb is sick - it looks a bit yellower than in this photo and started becoming soft... This is how it looks today.
And no, I usualy don't leave the roots standing in water.
Thanks again for very instant responses, it really helps! I'm going to water it today to prepare for tomorrows' procedure and go buy some hydrogen peroxide.
