My first Miltonia
So I ordered this plant from Ebay, and it came looking as if it had just lost its inflorescence. I trimmed the stem and put cinnamon on it, plonked it in SH culture (I seem to have luck with all my pseudobulb orchids in SH), and just sort of waited to see what would happen. turns out this is a great plant for Scotland. It is in a south facing frosted window, so it gets plenty of light, but is also quite cool a lot of the time, as the weather here has been cool...perfect. Here is the new growth that was just starting when I got the plant. It has taken off, and it looks like that thick sprout to the right is going to be another flower spike, I think? We shall see.

The old PB looks a bit shrivelled...but that may be from previous culture.

YEah, I think that may be collateral damage from when I switched culture. Although I have one other oncidium that does that too. Once the flower spike goes, the old Pbulb shrivels, but it doesn't seem to discourage new, healthy growth, so I've been leaving it alone.

As I remember, mine (way back when), would maintain good older PB appearance for one or two growth cycles. But, if it grows and flowers and seems relatively happy, it's good

I'm actually glad to know that. I had been wondering about that as other pics I've seen show bulbs that are still smooth but mine seem to "hit it and quit". Maybe its because this is a first flowering cycle for me with new medium with these plants? I guess time will tell. So far they keep cranking it out so I guess I'll just stay the course. But I won't be winning any awards for pretty bulbs any time soon.

Even if they're wrinkled and ugly, as long as it blooms, we should be relatively happy. It seemed to me, that the two I had long ago, were pretty tough. The only thing was don't let them go dry...really hate the crinkled leaves that happen and last for years.

Yes that's a spike, seems this plant grows a lot like my Zygo hybrids, in fact it looks very much like them. What was the name of this plant?
I can't seem to keep pbulbs smooth for the life of me though time will tell b/c I'm keeping a Zygolum in Promix it came in and so far the pbulbs have not begun to wrinkle at all. My Colmanara came in promix too but I repotted, took most of it out then decided against that and mixed the promix in with it, so we'll see what happens. Seeing as so many wrinkle under my care I can tell you it's not the end of the world but it is an indicator to watch yourself!

Here's my Miltonia:
Miltonia spectabilis var. Morelliana x Seminole Blood 'Jaguar Dawn' in spike
The spike comes up thinner and at a slightly more mature stage than your plant, though I know that all plants are different even within the same genus I can't help but notice how similar to my Zygos this spiking/growth habit is. I have a Zns. almost in bud right now and it did the same thing, the spike starts while the new growth is quite young and has yet to really differentiate its leaves even.

I have no idea what kind of plant it is...I got it off of Ebay, and when I get a new kind of plant of the first time, I tend not to go for anything with too fancy a provenance as I am still in the learning stage. It did have a photo attached to the listing from when it was in bloom...I think this plant is a division. I'll attach it on here, you will probably know better than I.

That's beautiful! It's a Miltoniopsis, otherwise known as the pansy orchid. Nice find.
