Overall outdoor climate has nothing to do with sprouting BBs! I sprout mine in sealed plastic bags in the house under skylights in the attic where temps go from 70F to 90F in the summer. The sealed bags act as mini greenhouses. Since they go into a moist bark mix, they do to need to be watered.
In answer to what media, which is where this thread started, fir bark, NOT standard pine bark is the bark recommended for a potting mix as pine breaks down too fast. That said, there is a product on the marked called Orchiata which is in fact made using baked pinus radiata, a type of pine.
There are as many preferred mixes for Cyms out there as there are growers, and few of us use the same mix. I recommend you go to the Cymbidium section on this site as well as the search engine at the top of this page, and look at the many posts on mix for Cyms. It all depends on where you live and the conditions you grow under as to whether you need a coarse fast draining mix or one that holds water longer.
In regard to BBs, yours are potted in way too big a pot. I sprout all my BBs from one bulb, assuming it is the standard for the plant and not a small one. Two are fine. I believe Bil was referring to the division of an entire plant in keeping 5+ green bulbs to a division.
If you are looking for some guidance in repotting as well as culture, send a PM to
goldcoastcymgrowers@gmail.com and ask for their free repotting guide and cultural instructions. Many of the members of the OB have done so and been glad they did.
Good luck
