Post-shipping Orchid Inspection/Health Questions Male
Default Post-shipping Orchid Inspection/Health Questions

I just received three Psychopsis in the mail today that I got off ebay. They were shipped on Tuesday with a three day heat pack because the weather's so uncertain lately. This is a new species to me and I'm not sure what they should look like right now. Most of the bulbs are a fairly shriveled and the leaves look kind of parched. This time of the year is technically the rest period for this species though, right? One does have a spike forming (only about an inch long), so I suppose that's a good sign.

I guess what I'm wondering is; are there any telltale signs that an orchid is stressed from shipping and something needs to be done?

All I've done so far is given them a good misting, because they were bone dry, and set them in a dim light to wake them up a bit.

Does anybody have a procedure to inspect their orchids after shipping? I'm just curious if anybody has a certain protocol to run through after receiving an orchid that's been in shipping for a bit.

I can upload pictures , but I'm a little burned out right now.

Thanks for any tips.
