Default I'm an Orchid grower now.

I purchased two Phals that had lovely roots at Lowes about three weeks ago in the clearance for 5$ each. They were potted up in coconut husks which I have never seen at these stores in my life. So I bought them and cleaned the up added in some spagnum moss ,charcoal pieces , and lava rock to the mix they were in. Nothing going on for about a week . Then I noticed one air root getting longer on one and after two weeks I have a new root nubbin !!! On the other one I have 3 root nubbins!! I am so happy to know they are doing well. Orchids will make you an insanely patient person which I guess is good for me.

My winter wonderland is growing well I have two growths with active roots. The older growth is there has no roots , is wrinkled I am not sure if I should remove it or leave it be its not turning brown.

My husband and I also bought a mini Phal for our 2 yr old Daughter for Valentines Day since she loves my orchids. It has two spikes and a new spike growing when we purchased it. I excited to see a spike in active growth since I have never experienced that. It hasn't bloomed yet but I hope I can have a Id on it once it does.

I am excited about this and I cannot wait to post pictures !

Be careful there is no real antidote to the orchid bug.
Seeing them flower provides a fantastic feeling of wellness.
We all start as growers but end up as collectors.
Its great fun and you meet some great people who are only to happy to help or even extend your collection with those words "Have you got one of these well you have now"

As opposed to an orchid killer . I think I have the hang of things now. My order of Paphs was cancelled because of extreme weather here but I have my noids that are here to keep me happy at least!

I would not cut off roots until they were crispy paper hulls.
