I will definitely do that. I don't know exactly what a "spike" looks like, but the cane in the center foreground was the original one, that I cut the dead flower from. You can see part of the original stem still in the middle. Is that what you were referring to or something else? Honestly, I don't know a thing about orchids and have never seen one grow a bloom. But if mine is about to that would be great. If not, I'll try feeding it weakly/weekly! Thanks for the tip. One last thing, see the roots coming out of the side. Should this one be in a bigger pot? Does it need more "media" or what? The woody stuff it's in is really hard... that's why I started soaking it, so it would suck up some water. If I just water it, it pours right out the bottom. Is that right? Thanks again for all your input.

Bark allows fast drainage, which is exactly what you want with an orchid. That's why the water is pouring out the bottom--don't worry about it. just use about 6 oz. of water, pour it around the plant, let it drain, and it'll be fine. do this about once every 4-7 days.

Don't repot it, those roots are aerial roots that are trying to anchor the plant. if you want you can put more bark over them, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Good luck!
