Mini Phal spike. I had to cut off the spike anyway because the plant was suffering from root loss, and then I found a thread on another forum about growing keikis from cut spikes, and decided it was worth a try.
The Dendrobium nobile cane I had to cut because it was broken and all black at the base. It had one keiki before, but now it has two.
Phals can either naturally grow a keiki on the spike or people can induce the Phal's spike to grow a keiki from a dormant eye on the spike using "keiki paste".
Keiki paste is a gel that contains phytohormones that induces undifferentiated cells in meristematic tissue to differentiate so that it may hopefully turn into a keiki.
