free Vanda offer
…for anyone who will give her a good home.
Hello everyone. I am sad that I must part with my big Vanda but it has grown too large for my greenhouse plus I’m having difficulty raising it back up into hanging position after I soak it in it’s bucket. It has bloomed often and has gone keike wild. As long as I have had it, it has soaked in fertilizer water each day (and seaweed water about once each month…starting approx.. 2 yrs. ago).
Before I go on, I should tell you that I will not be able to ship it (I’m sorry)…so anyone interested will have to pick it up here at my home. I live in north-central Alabama.
I am sending photos of my Vanda, but they are random and are in no specific order as to the date each photo was taken…although I had dated one 2001, which I know is wrong because I haven’t been growing orchids that long. I have been trying my hand at them about 8 years and this Vanda is approx. that old. I bought it at Lowes’ when it was a bag baby only a few inches tall and now it is between 3 ˝-4 feet tall…top of plant to bottom of roots. As I was a very new grower when I purchased it, it didn’t cross my mind that the plant would grow as large as it has and where I would put it if it did (duh me). It has many keikes and one is spiking with new buds at the moment. I can’t remember exactly what the tag said it’s name is because it dropped into the Vanda’s watering bucket sometime since I have had it and was lost when I changed the water (approx. every 2 weeks). I do remember the tag read “Robert” in it’s name. As you can see, the blooms are quite large and are a pretty blueish-purple shade.
I am posting this in the “Orchids For Sale, Trade, Free..etc.” forum as well as the Advanced forum in hopes more people will see my post.
Back to photos, I do not have one as of today (because I have not had time to take one)...but I will try to this afternoon or tomorrow morn. if you ask...no problem.
I feel that I may have left out info that would answer any questions you may have, so please ask and I will try to answer.
Thank you for reading,
Vicki

Wow! That is a beautiful plant! It must be heartbreaking to have to let it go. I'm sure it will bring a lot of joy to its new owner. I'd love to have it, but live too far away. Great growing, and thanks for the culture info.

Please Vickii, make sure it gets to someone with the same growing conditions or with a greenhouse and is not a beginner. I salivate when I see it, but I would kill it dead in a few months and I know my limits. It needs to be in Florida or Georgia.

Thank you, it's been good to me by rewarding me with very pretty blooms. I'm going to miss Ms. Vanda...she's been with me a long time, and as you say, it is heartbreaking to let her go. As long as it gets a good home, no doubt it's new owner will enjoy it, as I have. By the way, you're welcome for the small bit of culture info I had to offer.

Vicki, have you thought to ask local or near orchid organizations if they might have a "forever family" waiting for your beautiful Vanda? Even Houston is not that far from Alabama, and there might be someone wanting to drive that far.

First of all...that is an absolutely...breathtakingly...gorgeous blue vanda!!!
I'm guessing that it would be a Vanda Robert's Delight?
The fact that you are giving it away...blowing my mind!!!
How far are you from Huntsville? How can we get in touch? I would love to come get it!

CambriaWhat
The distance from Huntsville to my home is less than 50 miles. The reason I'm giving my Vanda away rather than sell it is simply because I have learned a tremendous amount from members over my few orchid growing years - and I just want to repay all of you with the offer.
As for getting in touch, I sent you a private message.
Vicki
