Phaleonopsis with small translucent / sunken spots on leaf
Default Phaleonopsis with small translucent / sunken spots on leaf

I've noticed the sudden appearance of translucent/sunken spots on on leaf of a noid phal. It was munched on by a caterpillar last year, but has recovered nicely - may have the healthiest roots of any of my phals. Gets morning sun, and full shade the rest of the day. With other phals that show no problems. Doesn't match any obvious issues, so I thought I'd ask here.

Wiping with a tissue shows no evidence of mites. Spots are small, no more than a few millimeters. Visible from both sides of the leaf, but obviously sunken on the underside.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Pictures hopefully attached...

I have had this happen on some of my phals too. I don't really know why it happened (not consistent), but I did notice that I seemed to get them more often when I would mist my phals and they got some morning sun before the droplets had all evaporated- maybe causing the drops to be mini magnifying glasses and cause tiny sunburn marks? I don't properly know. Now that I have been misting earlier before sun-time, I haven't had that problem anymore...

Welcome to Orchid Board

I've had it happen as well, and don't really know the reason. I think it's little patches where the cells have collapsed, there could be various causes, but the misting/sun possibility is one.
