OK i have it in my head, and my window, the idea of an aquarium for some of my orchids. Is this a good idea? Anyone here ever use one for this? Any pointers? I learn so much here! I hate to bother any one person (you know who you are) but i hope he sees this post! Thanks in advance!

An aquarium can be a great orchid enclosure!

It's a great idea as long as the aquarium isn't totally enclosed and sitting in the sun. Cooked orchids isn't a pretty sight.

If you are using small tanks like 10 gallon, it is easier to use with "vertical conversion":
DIY: 10 Gallon Vertical Vivarium - ReptileOverload
I use thin plywood painted with elastmeric paint (used to water-proof roof) for the front door, instead of glass or acrylics.
Top access works, but it is a bit more tedious for me (I have to move the light, move the glass cover, and then access to orchids).

But in New Orleans, don't you have really high humidity?

Thats where those nasty boogers come from I tell you what you take some of the spiders I have this year and I will take some of your hoppers(my dog eats them the nut). When I had de flasked chids. i used a beta tank and stuck it in my window or on my night stand the betta light helped get the humidity up as well and they did really well until the cold came...

I've done the aquarium enclosure thing before with my plants. It worked VERY VERY well, especially with a little artificial light thrown in.

I have seen a couple of members here have success with aquarium set ups. Do a search because its was quite long ago.
I was so impressed that I asked my little kid cousin for his large aquarium that he discarded at the basement but I have not yet put my mind into it.

Have a look at the terrarium gardening section on orchid board under styles, setups, enclosures. Lots of information there.
