Thats from my notes im on the 2nd week and have soaked the entire plant all the nooks and crannies of the plant(thats how I figured out it destroys spiders! Purely accidental).

Then I guess you soak the pot in the mix. I honestly dont know about that part because this is my first round with fungal issues. But it works my plants have jumped back to growing like weeds. Their color is back and no more new leaves dying off.

The bright light I truly dont know. I have a warm/hot growing cym. That loves bright light but that is about all I know.

Interesting...and you're not seeing any adverse affects from the cinnamon? I guess mixed with the water and soap it could be diluted, but I wonder as Liz was pointing out being careful with cinnamon.

I don't mean to take over thread the the topic of this mix at all, but coming across it and with my Onc. 'Heaven Scent' looking as though it could be experiencing something fungal (leaves have bluish tint, something like what you see with powdery mildew I would say) so I would like to try this.

Glad your aunt found the tag! I've found it's more fun to have IDs for your plants, not that NoIDs are any less beautiful! Plus now you know exactly what kind of culture to look up.

I like to find such "recipes" as was listed here for you that require fairly innocuous ingredients. I have two birds so spraying chemicals is not something I can do inside, but dish soap and cinnamon, now hey that we can deal with! It seems a worthy preventative too even when one isn't apt to spray the world! I've learned too that preventative measures become more appealing the more your collection grows and the more time you invest in this addiction...I mean hobby...

Thanks, I was surprise that my aunt went trough the trouble of looking for the tag.

Cinnamon has worked for me in saving some phals from crown rot, and also keeping my beloved susan from orchid heaven. I have learn to use it sparingly to not dry roots out.

I know what you mean about not being able to use pesticides. I keep my orchids on a east facing balcony, were birds and squirrels come to feed as well. So I put beer for the snails when ever I see sings of them (which is not often).

I use Biocare aphid and whitefly trap. I place them around the plants and so far has worked for me even with my roses.

And now I'm thinking of using ant traps. I think that if I place them on the outside of the pots that it may help keep ants from getting to the plants.

I just don't want to spray something that can hurt the plants or is toxic to the birds and squirrels.
