I'm just guessing too but my vote is for another spike. The very mild looking club-like-almost-maybe-sorta shape at the end suggests this to me. Do keep us updated.

I have to say, isn't it funny how anxious we get, especially in the beginning or with new plants, when it comes to knowing what's going on!! I saw some tip of growth between leaves of a Phal of mine and just about freaked out cuz I thought it was a spike, no it's a root - still awesome I know especially since I've been nursing this plant.

Just had to say that and now I'm going to go check on my plants for new signs...lol

Lotus146 I know totally what you mean!! I have a few phals that are currently growing like crazy but this one is just strange!! I will post a few more pics in a week or so as things progress. I have never heard if a spine growing out of the same node as a keiki before.

No doubt! What a crazy-cool situation you've got on your hands there, a keiki and a spike! I think that's one of the kind of things so many of us get amped up about, this crazy growth. The keiki i potted earlier this year has such a small spike growing right now it's so cute I can't get enough of it. I want more keikis!

I'm with you though, anxious to see how that all plays out!

Ok so here are a few more pics. It's growing very quickly. You can see the keiki is starting two roots, at least I think the little nubs Are the start of roots. As for the spike thingy is this a branch rather than a spike? Regardless I am not sure just how I am going to support it once it gets larger!

I also have a few pics of the mother plant which is working on new roots of her own and a new leaf, and you can also see the older keiki putting out a new leaf, it is also putting out a new roots of its own.

Obviously this phal seems to be quite happy!
