Hi I'm vincent I live in Las Vegas and slowly but surley Im becoming addicted to orchids I have 2 cyms and 7 phals. I managed to get both of my cyms to spike which are growing with flying colors. I have 3 phals that are not in bloom but its almost January and they have no spikes??? what months do they typically start to spike?
Hi Vincent, are your phals growing well? There was a thread in the Phalaenopsis forum about a change in temperature needed to get some of them to spike.
I have found that if they are indoors with a relatively constant temperature they start to spike when the days begin to get longer. I had one in my kitchen that bloomed every February like clockwork.
Now, mine all spike in the beginning of winter when I bring them in from the greenhouse after the temperatures have dropped off quite a bit. They are all spiking and blooming now.
Depends on conditions. Wait to see if they spike when the days start getting longer.
Good luck Vincent! Yeah, they may be late bloomers. You do know not to cut off the flower stems until/unless they turn brown, right? Because they often will branch off the same flower stem and bloom again (most of mine do).
