From what ive seen reds come more from dark heavy spotting than as a solid colour and veer towards maroon or violet. Even solid ones are more magenta than red. It depends on lighting. The dark solid reds tend to have heavier substance very waxy and fewer blooms per spike due to the species involed in the crosses and are more novelty plants usually pricier. I remember watching a video once somewhere i forget where saying a red is made by crossing a yellow with a purple... something wierd like that lol. Look up red phalaenopsis on Google and plenty come up. As for me, i like dtps taida salu for red. Its yellow with heavy red mottling so if your temps are cool during spiking the blooms come out almost solid red with yellow specks not the other way around

but again its like finding a true blue vanda: close but still purple... one day
