I am also ecstatic to say I found new reed growth coming off my den. anntenatum, Especially AFTER I almost killed it!! WHOOPSIE!! The 2 oldest stems that were sickly and not growing any new roots have now been removed. But I will have 3 stems again soon and about 20 new baby roots coming in to start over with! Hurray, Hurray, Hurray!!

I also saw that my schomburgkia have 2 new growths, and about 15 new roots over the two plants post mounting over about....a 2 month period!

Yeah now new issue is that I have found I may have moved my greenhouse to far into the shade.Hoping that I dont have to move it again that dang thing is moveable but still weighs around 75-100lbs.

Oh and I also found that wax paper helps with blocking just enough of the sun out to not cause severe burn. When I was hardening off my seedlings and new acquisitions.

Good luck and to nooooo frying!!

that's a cool species. Here we get the ( supposedly invasive ) Chinese Mantis. A couple of years ago I bought a few egg cases over the internet........and now we have mantis every year. They are fascinating - but true eating machines........scary. Beat zombies any day for mindless cruelty in the way they feed - usually head first
The cold snap we had recently wiped them out. I collect egg cases when I prune all the dead branches away. I store them outdoors - and then around about June every year, they hatch.

Hands down my favorite insect. If it stays warm in there it could live until springtime. But 18 months is usually the max lifespan even for the spoiled ones

Good photos
Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary: Praying Mantis Egg Cases

Its happened to me that I missed protecting the "nymphs" and literally hundreds of jumping spiders were gorging themselves on them. Nature is unforgiving. I am sure weeks later the ones that survived were eating the jumping spiders in turn. Out of hundreds of nymphs, I know of only 5 adults in my garden prior to the cold snap that killed them.
