NoID orphan from Lowes, thriving!
This is for all my fellow sentimental NoID-lovers: a tiny new growth on a previously sad-looking (probably dendrobium?) found at Lowes about a month ago. It was sitting dejectedly in clearance: in the company of wrinkled, yellowing phals. My husband chided me for bringing home another orphan plant, but who can resist a $2 mystery? I might even see the blooms sooner than expected!
It was originally potted in only spagnum moss, so I gave it some nice dendrobium mix in a better but same-size pot.

I don't mind orphans at all. In fact, I was with students at a local hospital and noticed a poor phal sitting at the nurses station. Upon further inspection, it was covered in scale. Pulled some alcohol wipes out of my pocket and began to wipe it down as the Administrator approached and asked if I wanted the plant...stating that otherwise it would just die, like all the rest. I begged her not to make me take it..... )
So I took him home, repotted him, fed him and then sprayed him down. I can't wait to see what this little hobo has in store for me!

Hehehe, nice! Also, hadn't thought to use alcohol swabs for scale, that's brilliant!

Yay for $2 mysteries! Nice work, kikitastrophe and HighSeas, at reviving orphan plants.

Try using a soft toothbrush - watch the buggers slide off

I love these blooms - I had no idea what to expect and I am pleasantly surprised. Only two made it from the first spike due to a mealy bug attack (I blame the nearby catasetums!!!) but there is another inflorescence coming from the older bulb that may do better. My husband thinks they probably dyed it blue originally, but I've never seen a blue-dyed dendrobium... Have you?
