Cattleya growth

Hello again!

I guess i feel like posting today since i have nothing else to do.

so i have a BLC and it is growing well since i got her, which was few months ago.
Back then it had two new growths and one has developed a sheath but no buds for now.

Now i saw that there are about 5 new growths ?!
Two of them were already there when i got the plant but they haven't grown any in this past few months. Like they were resting. And now they are starting to develop. Plus there are about 3 brand new growths.
I dont know is this normal or not?
Shouldn't it direct the energy and growth in to the new buds not the new growth?
And since it is the end of the summer i thought it will soon go to the dormant stage. not exploding with new growth Not that i complain

Hmm.. I don't know, I don't really grow Catt types, but I think some can grow year round hopefully someone more experienced with Catt-types than I, will come along!

Some cattleyas have a resting period and some don't. If your plant is a winter bloomer it may be putting on some new pseudobulbs that will bloom later this year or early next year. Fall bloomers usually won't start new pseudobulbs this late in the summer but some of them can bloom while new pseudobulbs are still forming. I have a cattleya right now with two large buds on it while it still has one pseudobulb that's just beginning to grow. In any case let the plant do what it wants. Provide some fertilizer to support the new growth (it doesn't need to be a lot since the days are shorter now). Also consider keeping a journal. The best way to predict what an orchid will do in the future is to write down what it does each year. You will see a pattern over time.

I'm happy for you that you have such a vigorously growing cattleya.

Mine always have one growth per season, except one that got two growths going at the same time and now in sheath together.

When conditions are right, and the plant is healthy, I think cattleyas usually send up lots of leads in all directions.

The sheaths may or may not send up flowers soon. I learned the hard way and as Tucker said, with time, you will learn this plant's growing/flowering pattern.

With quite a few leads going on your plant, it will give you quite a show in the near future.

I just keep my fingers crossed it will grow well and that i manage not to kill it in the mean time!
