Orchid Identification - Orchid Board

Hello everyone,

On the way home from the allotments this afternoon I found an orchid someone had tossed on to the lawn. Please would you tell me what kind of orchid it is? My guess is that it is an Oncidium but it is only a guess. It is in good shape. Thank you for helping.

How do I look after a Miltonia hybrid so it will flower again in a year? Is it possible in Stockholm, Sweden?

Hope this might help. As far as I know they actually like cooler temps and grow intermediate temperatures, so I think you can grow it very well in Sweden:

There is many different ones, but look into the pictures on the Google, leaves look very similar, however I can not for sure tell if it is Miltonia or Oncidium, both are possible in my opinion.

If you have Miltonia, I truly love them, they have gorgeous blooms. Unfortunately they DO HATE our hot Florida weather, I tried one once, and it was really not doing good what so ever here:-( Oncidiums are gorgeous also, so no matter what you have, it is always great to SAVE the orchid and make it thrive. Both, Miltonia or Oncidium does not need any winter rest, an d since you will grow it inside, make sure it gets enough light, and also water. They do not like to be over watered but neither of them likes to dry out completely between watering. Try to check the pseudobulbs, if they seem too shriveled, it needs more water. I would also use rather clear see through pot to be able to check on the roots, it is easier to see any issues right away in the clear pot.

I never throw any orchid away unless it is totally dead. If it is a Miltonia hybrid then I have a new type of orchid to look forward to. The pseudobulbs -I can see two- have no creases at all and the leaves too are perfect. I am thrilled at this new gift from God. If it is an Oncidium then I now have 3 to look forward to. I have not been able to find any satisfactory image on Google of Miltonia hybrids' leaves and pseudobulbs. No matter, I shall just have to be patient till it flowers. It will be great whatever it turns out to be.

I think it could be anything in the Oncidium/Odontoglossom/Miltonia type of region of orchids. Will be easier to tell when it flowers.

I would give it Oncidium type care, the others like Miltonia will generally do fine with that sort of care, until you can see what the flowers are like and know more closely what it is.

On the sticker it says:Orchid, half shade in summer, sun in winter,18-24 C both perods,water every 5-7 days in summer,7-10 days in winter,fertilize every 30 days i summer, every 60 days in winter. They ought to have given the name of the type of orchid instead of just Orchid. It does not give the orchid grower.
