Cheers, looks like I'll be hacking into it on the weekend ! Might be gentle with a few bits, then just chop the remainder off - the tree has three separate clumps, the one in flower in the pics and two smaller ones like the other pic.

Yeah, it'll be fine. Another trick from a speciosum fanatic is to trim all the roots off (without hacking into the pseudobulb) then stake it into a coarse bark mix. It will re-root pretty quickly. Aparrently it is good to do this every few years to re-invigorate the plant.

Well, finally got around to doing something - I decided to cut off a small clump on a small-ish branch of the tree. I think I'll leave it on the branch and hang the whole lot up for a while. Thanks for the suggestions !

You will defiantly have to post pic's when it blooms. Good going.

Looks great! I bet in no time at all, it'll have doubled in size! Lol, They seem to envelop entire trees down there!

It bloomed

Not what I expected though

Despite being on a tree with a blooming D.Speciosum, and looking a little like a speciosum as I hacked it off its host tree late one afternoon, I somehow don't think it is a speciosum. I guess I still have a lot to learn

The annoying thing is that I really wanted to grab a part of the D.Speciosum. I'll have to be content with the old one dad gave me years ago that's still powering along in my garden on absolutely zero attention (haven't fed or watered it in 15 years), plus there are (I tihnk anyway...) a speciosum or two mounted on tree branches in amongst the rest of the orchids.
