I am of the opinion that unless the plant is a robust grower and has bloomed vigorously in the past, has 4 or 5 good sized leaves and lots of roots, cut the finished flower spike. I feel that the plant benefits too much from the cutting of the spike. Give it a chance to grow more roots and leaves before initiating another spike. Future flowers will be larger and more of them. I have allowed many many phals to rebloom from old spikes and they just never give good secondary flowers as opposed to allowing it to rest and then flower again after gaining energy reserves. If flowers are what you want then buy another phal or two (three) in bloom and wait for this one to grow awhile. With phals you can have enough to have good strong fabulous blooms all year long while waiting for the others to grow awhile. But your choice. I think I'll grow a few and cut some flower spikes off completely and let others rebloom to show the difference. Usually secondary bloom spikes don't have nearly as many flowers and also have smaller flowers than if they were cut and allowed to grow awhile before blooming again.
