Today I bought a sickly looking orchid and when I got it home ended up with crown rot. I had to cut off most of the leaves and some roots that were starting to rot in between the main part and the new root tip.
What I was wondering is it posibol to grow new roots on the cut off leaves (they were only rotted at the end)??
And is it posibol to grow new leaves from the roots??
I also put keiki paste on the exposed part.
I'm sure you've read the sticky "The Phal abuse ends here." to some degree or another, because I see that you've posted a question there as well. If you haven't already, I recommend reading it from the very beginning. The answer to your question(s) is in that sticky.
The typed out answer comes with a set of photos as well.
Assuming you have a phalaenopsis, no, the ends of the leaves will not grow new roots like many house plants (e.g. african violets). There are orchids that can be propagated like this (notably most Restrepia) but Phalaenopsis won't. Likewise, cut off roots won't grow new leaves. You may get a basal keiki if you're lucky from the base of the "stem", but that would involve having enough plant left to support this while it grows.
If you have the base part where the leaves attach to the roots, then it is possible for that to start a new crown (basal keiki), but that would need good roots with enough of the base left for it to be able to grow.
As Philip say they won't grow from just a leaf and roots on their own won't grow.
