It has a new spike growing off of it and it is in super dry & crunchy sphag so I just soaked it and I'm going to just watch it. I don't want to re-pot and lose the new bloom spike. It also has some new roots poking out so we'll see!

I'd check the sphag to at least loosen it up in the middle and see if you can suss out any dead, gross roots. I had one (that I pictured in here somewhere) that is growing a new bloom stalk off his spike. Granted he hasn't done anything AT ALL in the last week, but it has only been a week. I repotted him, and he seems okay. If you're super worried, just loosen some of that moss so you don't lose more roots in the process.

I will give it a moment to soak and poke through it later tonight. Thanks for the advice!

The first 2 of my Lowe's clearance finds...
All of my clearance rack phals are NOIDs, so some I have given names. Please don't laugh too hard.
The first one - the white one - is Teensy, my $1 mini phal and one of my two most recent ones.
The second one I got the same day as Teensy, and named this one Sunshine. I got sunshine because I wanted a yellow one, and he had good roots that I could see right away! And when I repotted him just an hour ago, I had to upgrade from a 3.5 inch pot to a 5 inch pot because the AMAZING (!!) roots would not fit into the 3.5 or 4 inch pots I had!
(I read the sticky about posting photos before attempting this, so if something doesn't go through, I'll have to figure something else out...)

Very pretty! I have a phal in a 4 inch pot now that will probably have to go into an 8 inch pot!

The next ones...
The first one has no nickname yet - I have no idea what the blooms look like - when I got it, the double spikes were already barren. But since being replanted, the roots have shot out of the plant - I counted 9 NEW roots, not to mention the new growth on the older roots! Happy, happy, happy...
Next up is Harley, my $3 harlequin which is the one I was talking about in my thread "Phal rebloom explanation needed". You can see the darker colors and there is a half inch difference in size between the new bloom on the end and the older ones.
Lastly, we have Floppy. The first time I repotted Floppy, he fell to the side, and didn't want to stay up. I gave up arguing with him and let him stay that way, so when I repotted him the second time, he just stayed that way. He's just chillin'.

I was SO happy to see those roots the way they were! Made me VERY happy I brought it home during the last winter storm we had (it was sleeting in MAY!!).

I went back to the grocery store today and got this one. Poor things spike was broken just below the last bloom....has lots of ok looking roots....not bad for $4!
Here's one that I got yesterday. Also $4.
Here's my $2 mini phal I got yesterday also.
Not bad for a total of $10. They're good enough for me to practice and learn with. :-)

The mini phals at lowes are frequently sold in these tall pots. Just in case anyone here doesn't know, these pots have a small reservoir in the base that holds a bit of water. If you water your orchid & allow all excess water to drain away, then turn the pot sideways more water will come out. Now this reservoir may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your environmental conditions and watering habits. If you feel like your orchid is staying wet for too long, then you might want to drain the reservoir best you can after every watering or repot your orchid.
