I tried that, my guy is a [insert mean word here]. He actually knows they're not dead, and he knows they can make $ on them. When we move in a couple of weeks I might test the waters on the manager over there...*maniacal laugh*

I purposely found a full-price dendro with a broken bloom spike, took it inside (not the seasonal employees in the garden center) and asked the boy if I could get a discount since it was broken. He offered 50% off without a second thought. teehee

Here's a treasure I found at Lowes. A Brassavola Little Stars "bag baby" in spike! I got it for $12. And it was fresh.
Here's an earlier thread I had started with a few of my and other peoples' Lowes purchases: Treasures found at Lowes

First of all, besides Estimated Time of Arrival, I have no idea what ETA means. Secondly, those are sooooo great! All mine carries is Phals and those baggie Catts, but they don't clearance the Catts. I should try other stores in the area to see if they have other kinds of orchids. They look wonderful!

ETA = edit to add
The Catt was a bag baby, $6.97 full price, something like that...
Also, the phal on the far right (I removed one pic and added an updated) is a phal my mom bought me from Ikea a year ago...it hasn't spiked but it continuously throws out new roots and leaves. I can't believe I didn't clearance-stalk orchids until now! Last year it was all perennials and garden plants for our house, but we just sold it so I switched to orchids that can travel with us!

Try a CFL in addition to window light if you want just a few... I wouldn't have enough light to grow hardly anything if I didn't use artificial lights, T5s.

What do you think of my indoor lighting for the moment? We are moving next month so I can't justify a lighting change -- both rooms have CFLs and the window gets direct sun most of the day. I have had these on my front porch the past few days on the opposite side of the house (no direct sun, under a deep porch) but it was into the 40s last night so I brought them inside.

I've actually got a couple threads on the board at the moment, trying to discern what lights to use (looking @ Ray's LEDs) for my Phals and African Violets because when we move I'm getting shaded northwest windows. *grumble* I might try a few set ups in other places throughout the new apartment. Fiance is on an aeroponics kick because he wants to see if he can grow bell peppers inside, maybe I'll stick some in the second bedroom with his set up to keep things colorful (depending on the size once we're all set up).
In other news, here are my guys. Not many, and a couple in sad shape...That said, I'm new to the hobby and one thing I really want to see if I can do is rehab orchids. That way if people ever come to me with troubles, I can help them. And their orchids!
Our Lowes only sells Phals and the baggie Catts, and my first three guys are in great shape, the one I found was sending out a new bloom growth I hope that bringing it home and putting it in new medium won't discourage it from blooming. The other guy with the circles on his leaf is actually doing much better than he was, and I'm just watching what I think is sunburn to make sure it's not bacterial infection caused by mechanical damage on the leaf. Annnnnnnd then my sad, sad sphag and bag. I've got them in every stage, hehe!
PS - Pardon the mess, we're packing, :P

I just picked up another one tonight. It's my experiment. I've had my hands on it 2 other times in the past week. I finally took it to checkout and asked for it to be marked down from $12.50. The guy in the garden center gave it to me for $4. I swear the bloom spike is over 2'! It has a new spike growing off of it and it is in super dry & crunchy sphag so I just soaked it and I'm going to just watch it. I don't want to re-pot and lose the new bloom spike. It also has some new roots poking out so we'll see!
