Planted an aerial root, and it's growing.
Default Planted an aerial root, and it's growing.

For a while now I've noticed a really nice orchid at walmart.
I've never done flowers before,as I usually garden for food.
Purple is my favorite color,
and when I noticed the flower dying (left in the cold)
I figured I'd take a bit of the root that was hanging out,
and try and pot it.
I'll admit I'm cheap, and didn't want to pay the 12 dollar tag for a plant I thought might just die.. lol
I just wanted to see if I could give it a second chance.

I did a bit of reading, and saw in places people saying the aerial root would just rot if potted, but mine now has 2 cute little shoots coming out with their first little leaves.

I don't know what kind of orchid it is.
It just said "Orchid" on the pot..
I'd like to know what kind of info I should be looking for,
to ensure the plant lives.
I have it in a potting mix at the moment.
Here are some pic.s, and thanks for any help.

Those do not look like orchid shoots to me. Maybe you had some random seeds get into that pot?

Any chance any sunflower seeds or bird seeds fell into the pot? Those are not orchid seedlings, but you can grow them on to see what they are!

There are two phal species, Phal schilleriana and Phal stuartiana, that grow keikis (baby orchids) from the roots. However, the root needs to be attached to the plant so the keiki gets the nutrients to grow.

Agree. Those don't look like orchid shoots. Orchid potted in soil would rot very quickly, so it is even more unlikely that it is an orchid.

They are di cot seed leaves and as far as I know orchids are mono cots IE one leaf not two
