Well, in my case not knowing what to do about the roses and stuff, I did what I thought most practical but stupid: I asked my wife directly if she'd like some...and got laughed at (in a nice way)! She reminded me that we presently have about 16 flowering orchids throughout the house, and "they beat-out roses any day" (I take this as a VERY good sign of future orchid buying support )
So instead, I blew some bucks on two giant local lobsters (she loves lobster and we also don't care to go to overstuffed restaurants on V-day) and we had a great dinner surrounded by our orchids, which went over big...

Yeah, she seems nice. It's best not to ask but surprise your partner.
Anyhow, your valentine day sounds like it turned out very successful! Good for you!

Eh, we don't do Valentine's day here...Hallmark, you can take your hearts and stuff 'em! I just have never big on it. The hubby and I are getting some dinner tomorrow, that's it. We made each other homemade cards this year. It was sweet!

My wonderful husband sometimes surprises me with flowers or a new orchid on a random day. If he forgets valentines day, so what? No chocolates though- we both need to watch our diets. Yesterday was a work day so we had a simple dinner at home.

No V day here, to us its just another day, we do so much for each other all year, I think its the little thing you do or say that counts and not a box of chocolates or flowers one day a year

We don't really do Valentines day, but we do recognize our relationship. I cooked Cuban black beans and rice, grilled T-Bone steaks in my secret marinade, made an avocado basil tomato radish cheese and shallot salad, flour less chocolate Tort with fresh strawberries, and a delicious bottle if red wine, all served over great conversation and recognition of our love. No gifts, just a good meal and time together.

Sounds like lots of nice ideas and thoughts. My hubby does nice things thru the year. But we both love Belgian chocolates and ended up surprising each other with some! Some years I get roses.
Even tho he knows I am orchid crazy he doesn't buy them for me except the very rare time he is in a store or show with me and gets me one. He is always very quick to tell me to get one tho! So yesterday afternoon I went to Home Cheapo and got the clerk to give me one of the nice tagged Oncids that are just starting to be past their prime for 50% off! I came home with Onc. Tiger Crow 'Golden Girl' HCC/AOS.

Thanks NYCorchidman!!
I forgot to attach the picture of our currently favorite 'chid blooming and strong honey scent that permeates several rooms during the day. Like "Vanda Lover" says, roses cost often more than orchids. I got this one at a San Diego show 2 years ago for $30 - same as what many cut flower arrangements cost around here yesterday...
Roses smell nice but I've never had them as strong as some orchids like this one... Yay! for orchids!

I LOVE Belgian chocolate, and any nice dark chocolate. I buy myself all the time. I think I have chocolate addiction. thought I broke out of it for a while and now I find myself slowly stepping back in.
What a nice orchid you brought home! I love that one and I have one in bloom as well.
I'm orchid crazy also and my partner only bought one orchid (dark colored Phal. Prince Leopard with branching spikes) after we had a little argument last year. Well, what can I say, I did forgive him everything.

Jan, your white orchid is absolutely gorgeous! Does it have a name? Wow!
I am a fan of Valentine's Day. This year was cute as the two younger daughters both were given flowers and chocolates by boys and were so excited.
My spouse and I keep things simple. Some years I write and illustrate a poem but this year, I baked my spouse a special cake. I grow roses (all wonderfully scented, of course) and since it is difficult to find a local vendor who sells the Mr. Lincolns, I'd rather not get them. Instead, spouse ordered me some plants I have been mentioning. So sweet!
