Question on Neos Male
Default Question on Neos

This may sound silly but do neos rebloom from fans? I noticed today that some of my fans are growing tall and I'm wondering if these fans, which have bloomed before, might bloom again?

Yes they do! They will bloom from one or two leaves above the previous spike (like most Vandaceous species I believe), but on the same fan you will have many years of bloom, enjoy!

Oh good! I wasn't sure because you never see anyone mentioning this on the culture and care sites of these guys. Good to know. I scored a very nice pot of a basic neo and planted it in sh and now I have maybe 40 or 50 fans, about a third are new and the rest previously bloomed and they're just starting out. Now I want a bean leaf type!

Yep, I've got a lot of them! They're tightly packed from the original pot but have begun growing freely in the pot. I'm finding five or so new spikes every day it seems. It would be awesome if they all bloomed at the same time but my blooms last a week and that's it. Seems short.

keep up the good work, Ryan!
one of these days when all 50 fans decide to bloom all at the same time; you will have a magnificent bouquet of neo flowers to show us

Thx bud...the plant is doing so well. The roots are crazy too. They grow up sometimes but always turn back down into the sh media. It's funny because they're SO long and appear so even more by the fact that the roots arch over the plants. Lol. Btw I'm bidding in some bean leaf plants.

Yeah, unfortunately they don't bloom all at once. I kinda don't mind though, because then you get to see more flowers later down the line from other buds or spikes, rather than have them all bloom all at once, and then have them all go out of bloom all at once.

In answering your other concern, the blooms lasting only about a week is pretty typical of this species. There's really not much to do in order to extend the life of the blooms.

And if you'd like another person to solidify that Vanda (Neofinetia) falcata does re-bloom from the same fan; I'll be the second person on this thread to confirm that, yes, they do re-bloom from the same fan on a seasonal basis, from between the leaf axils from 1 or 2 leaves above where the inflorescence from the previous blooming season was.
