Question what is it on Laelia tenebrosa?

Does it look like a sunburn, or is it something more serious?
Should I cut the bulb off?
Thanks

That all depends on if its sunken and soft. If so cut it off right away and treat the cut with anti fungal or bactericide I have used peroxide with success. Also has it been spreading? If so that's another strong indicator of rot. It looks like a sunburn though. Hopefully someone else chimes in to help.

I agree with Cattleya17. I would treat it with hydrogen peroxide or something and then monitor it unless it is already soft. Pictures can be deceiving but the colour of the pseudo bulbs and the leaves that I can see look quite yellowish green on my monitor, so it could be sunburn. If they are real light yellow, maybe back off on the light. Is it a new acquisition? It looks like a Clouds tag. If it came that way and it is new, I bet the guys at Clouds would remember and tell you if it got burnt.

Thank you guys. I will monitor it closely to see if it gets soft or spreads.
Silken, it is a new from Clouds, but it came here clean. I put it into very sunny location on arrival and that bulb was the one that was looking at the sun. So I am almost sure it is a sunburn, but just wanted some type of reassurance.
I backed it a bit from the sun and will let it be and see if the dark area increases.

Thanks again.

I think it just wasn't used to such direct sun and got burnt. Hopefully it will be fine.

How do you use the hydrogen peroxide? Is it mixed or used full strength? I have a laela tenebrosa with some similar symptoms and would like to try the hydrogen peroxide treatment.

I have a bottle of 3% concentration from the pharmacy and I use that full strength on a cotton pad or Q-tip. You can also get solutions of 30 or 40% and I would think that is too strong.

Thanks for the info. I have the 3% HP solution and I will try that tomorrow.
