If the media in then bag is damp at all, it most likely is a type of mycorizial fungus that won't harm your orchids. But I would still put the media in the oven at 350 for 20 minutes to kill any other pathogens.
how about that for a spike then? :-D
more visibly darker than the other in person, photo isn't doing it justice. but can tell it's growing upwards.
really enjoying seeing the new lease of life in my orchid, so glad i didn't ditch it. thanks for the encouragement guys
I have an expensive Phal that I just got a few weeks ago that needs to grow some new roots. I can see where two are going to break through but I wish they would hurry up! It's not rare for your plant to put out new roots. Especially after blooming and being repotted. When was the last time your plant bloomed? Usually after they bloom they put out new roots and leaves. Then when they build up enough energy they will grow a spike. Actually it would be better for your plant to grow roots and establish itself in its new pot before it blooms again.
So I looked back at your first post and it says your Phal just finished blooming at the end of June correct? Those are roots your plant is growing then. It wouldn't be blooming again already. My Phal NoID blooms once a year but is in bloom for months. Some might bloom more than once a year but they take breaks inbetween. So your plant is doing what it is supposed to do. Bloom then grow some new roots and leaves. Then bloom again when it builds up enough energy. Blooming takes a lot of energy so you want it to put its energy into roots and leaves right now. That is why many people recommend repotting after flowering because usually that is when new roots form. Patients is required when growing orchids!
What sort is that? I'd like another. But think I'll stick with phals for now, wouldn't want to kill 1 of them lol.
It last bloomed just before I started this thread so prob end of may beginning of June.
I know it'll be a while yet till it re-coops. Just so glad it's doing well
I have killed many orchids and if you keep growing them I'm sure you will kill your share. It is part of learning how to grow all the different kinds. I was talking about a Phalaenopsis that I have. Same kind as yours just a different hybrid.
I'm adding a photo album to my profile and i've just found this pic tucked away from Oct 2010 showing a new spike coming through. Had my orchid 5 months by this point.
So it seems my orchid had 2 spikes, but i can't remember the first dying off..
I did see what looked like the end of a spike whilst repotting so it explains alot!! lol
