Could you post a pic? If it is mold you might be keeping it too wet and not giving it enough air movement. Did you rinse the CHC well before using them?

My 1ct worth.... I grow a few of my hybrid phals in this & I've had tiny bits of "white stuff" appear from time to time on CHC.. I just toss out the 'white bit' and think... oops I didn't give it enough air circulation after watering... even if it means putting them outside for an hour or two to get the top part of the medium damp instead of wet.. it's a fine line...... and better to be drier than wetter...
'White stuff' could also be salt accumulation from fertilizer... As Wynn said above a pic would help alot.

Not really sure what that is, giving a bump in the hope someone else has an idea.

Sorry to tell you this but I think that is a root. But that is good too. You want it to grow new roots and establish itself in the new pot! Roots grow downward usually and spikes will grow upwards. Spike are darker green usually too and are kind of mitten shaped at the tip. Roots are pointy like the one in your pic. A big healthy root system is a must for a healthy happy plant and then that plant will bloom great for you!

Ah well, still good though. Any insight into the white flecks mentioned in a previous post Wynn?

I'm not sure what the white flecks are.
