Default The saga continues

Hello there,

So I have had my orchids for almost half a year now! So far so good, I am getting new spikes on all of them so I must be getting the hang of this! I have one concern with my dendrobium however. One of the canes has tuned yellow in the middle. It's just a small cane, and the rest seem fine, just wanted to check with the pros here to see if I should be concerned. Here is a picture. Thanks!

Pickmary - The cane that you are talking about is just going thru it's life cycle. It has served it's purpose which was to bloom if old enough and then to support growth of the front of the plant. It will continue to yellow and eventually shrivel up and become totally dry. If it bothers you esthetically, you can cut if off now or wait until it is totally dry. You are not doing anything wrong, don't worry.

Did that cane lose its leaves first, or is the cane turning yellow while it still has leaves? If the former, I would tend to agree with Glen. If the latter, I would suspect something is wrong.

I have a question regarding my nobile den. It is in bloom right now with leaves, but I've had about 3 or 4 turn yellow and drop. I can post a picture if you need. Is this common? I thought they drop leaves in fall and grow them in spring. It is growing 3 new canes. Sorry this is my first nobile den.

Sorry to hijack the post

Cheryl

Cheryl - Common or not it is not a problem. Den nobile is desiduous and will it's leaves at some point. They may not have falen off in the fall because you were growing them warm and watering to much. So not to worry, enjoy your blooms.
