Does anyone know how long it takes for new flower stems to restart on an orchid? I have orchids without flower stems. The leaves are nice and strong but no stems.
My other question is, how long before the babies grow roots? I have three babies, all are different sizes.
Thanks for your help and time.

welcome to Orchid Board!

Quite often Phals. (which I am assuming are the type of orchid you mean)will start a bloom spike in the fall after being kept cool for a few weeks. That's not always the case but is pretty common. It also depends when it was last in bloom. Quite often they have been forced in the nursery and then take a while to get back on a regular schedule in our homes. It really depends on what type of Phals because some are almost always in bloom and others bloom once a year, but have blooms for a number of months once they do grow a spike.

I can't answer your question about the babies (keikis) but I believe it can take months. Someone else who has had keikis will maybe give you a better answer.

I agree with Silken about the spikes. Most spike once a year, and many are triggered by cooler temperatures in the fall. While this is not always the case it's a good generalisation.

Also as Silken said they can take 18months or 2 years to settle back into a patten after being forced in the nursery.

I've never had phal keikis so can't comment on the roots. I've only had Den kekies which seemed to grow the roots right from the beginning, in fact in many cases I realised I had a keiki from seeing the roots in an unexpected place. Phals I know form them later but can't comment more than that.

Thank you. My oldest Phals was blooming twice a year. I miss it. The white one you see in my picture.
Thank you again,

Thank you for everyones help. I have one more question. Will the orchid flower while the keikies are growing? Will the orchid grow a new flower stem? I only have Phals, different sizes because I grow them in the house and I'm not sure which orchids grow best in my area (central New York). My house is on the cool side in the winter months.
I've looked at some of other people's pictures and they are wonderful. I love the orchid that looks like they have part of a lady's fluffy slipper coming out of the front. I don't know the name.
Everyone have a great and wonderful day.

Both the plant and keiki can spike at the same time.
