No No... don't give it a chemical beer. Give it something to put hair on it's chest...if it had one. If there's not stuff floatin' in it, it's not a beer anymore! Give it a Skull Splitter or a good Belgian! HA! Ginnibug

I kept mine in a mini refrigerator with a clear glass front for a few months. I kept it at 55 F and it is growing like crazy. In fact it's growing faster then most of my other orchids.

Interesting, so a winter rest works wonders for you then. Good to know.

OH MY GOD! Went to follow Wjs2nd's advise and wanted to move my sedirea to a cooler place. I picked it up on four out of six leaves just ... fell off!!!!!!!!
Had a better look and could see white insects crawling in the bark! Then had a quick look at the other orchids, THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME CRAWLING MONSTERS! All of them!!! That's about 20! I am thinking mealybug, but really not too sure, microscopic things crawling in the bark. One of the oncidiums had sticky stuff under one of its leaves which makes me think mealybug, but not sign of the fluffy insects. They all went for a good wash under running water and got spray and water with a mixture of emergency cinnamon/soap/oil. Any advice? Or am I just over reacting? I am really worried. How on earth did I not see this before?! The only spared orchids are the freshly potted pleione. I think I am going to cry soon.

Your mix should work. You might have to do a follow up spray a few days later to get everything. I wouldn't put you sedirea in winters rest if it only has 2 leafs. Well at least not a very cool one. Keep it in the lower 60s

Mealy bugs don't move very fast and prefer the plant itself, so I'd bet that what you see crawling around in the pot is actually springtails. They're not harmful to the plant since they feed off decaying media, but they often do indicate that your media is breaking down. So while they are annoying, it's considered a minor problem compared to true pest insects.
Sorry about your Sedirea, it sounds like some sort of crown or stem rot....

We have a large collection of neo. falcatas and "used" to have a few sedireas (I absolutely fell in love with their blooms and heavenly scent) and they didn't fare so well in the end. We had a bad case of what we presumed to be soil mites. We switched everything to s/h and sprayed religiously with neem oil. Seemed to cure the issue for the most part. Mites can be white, but not quite sure what pest you have.
I'm personally afraid to have another round because they seem so temperamental in my experience, though others say they are easy to grow and I live in an ideal climate. They are by far a favorite of mine. Do you have any pictures of it?

Here's a photo of what's left of the poor thing. Can't see any white buggers today, but they were so small I doubt I could have taken a decent photo. Can't see any If you look at it closely, it looks like the roots are burnt. You can't see but there are still a few healthy ones.
Funny thing is all my other orchids are doing great. My phals are in full bloom.

Sedireas love water! Maybe it needs more. I grow mine in moss.

I actually water mine just as i do my phals. Is this not enough? I really don't like moss, I find it so easy to kill roots with it as it doesn't dry quickly. Then again, I have managed to kill those roots without moss. I have made up my mind and those insects have not harmed it I think as all my other orchids had them and are doing great. My cymbidium is about to bloom and I just can't wait! I'll see ca I rescue this one and just hope I was fall into the temptation of buying another one.
